At least one person died and six others were swept over a waterfall in Oregon Saturday (July 19), which led to a search and rescue mission with two still missing, authorities confirmed via CBS News.

The incident took place over Dillon Falls, which is located on the Deschutes River along the city of Bend, Oregon, the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed in a news release. The scene is a popular location for summer visitors, according to the agency.

Specific details on the circumstances surrounding the incident weren't shared publicly by authorities. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office said the incident was initially reported just prior to 3:00 p.m. local time, which led to deputies, local fire officials and search and rescue teams all responding to the scene.

Airlink and a Bend Police Department drone were used for an aerial search, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. Three people were reportedly rescued from the river and transported to a Bend hospital via ambulance, while two others remain missing, authorities confirmed during their final update on the situation Saturday.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office confirmed that search and rescue crews "continued recovery efforts into the evening" and wouldn't stop until sunset, at which point operations would cease until the morning if individuals remained missing. Authorities will not publicly identify victims publicly in order "to allow for proper family notification" via CBS News.
